Arizona does not require ID if you vote by mail.

Vote a provisional ballot in person

If you vote in person and don’t present accepted ID, you cast a provisional ballot. Arizona has two types:

Conditional provisional ballot

You cast this if you don’t bring ID or your ID is rejected at the polls. To make it count:

• Return to your polling place with accepted ID by 7:00 PM on Election Day, or
• Bring accepted ID to your county board of elections or clerk’s office — within 5 days after a federal election, or 3 days after any other election.

Provisional ballot

You can cast this without conditions if your ID has a name or address that doesn’t match your voter registration, or you’re using Tribal ID that doesn’t meet the state’s requirements. You don’t need to take extra steps — election officials will confirm your eligibility, and if they do, your ballot counts.

Tribal ID with a photo

You can present one form of Tribal identification and vote a regular ballot if it:

• was issued by the Bureau of Indian Affairs or a federally recognized Native American tribe
• shows your photo
• lists a name and address that reasonably match your voter registration
• is unexpired or has no expiration date

Tribal ID without a photo

If your Tribal identification doesn’t have your photo, you can vote a regular ballot if you bring a second form of non-photo identification from this list. Voters who can only provide one form of non-photo Tribal identification should not be refused at the polls — you have the right to cast a provisional ballot without any conditions. Tribal members using their Tribal ID do not need to return later or show any extra ID to make their provisional ballot count.

Accepted forms of Tribal ID include:

• Tribal identification card
• Certificate of Indian blood
• Grazing permit or allotment
• Tribal enrollment card
• Home site assignment lease
• Tribal voter ID card

You cannot show a digital copy of your photo ID to vote in Arizona. You can show an accepted form of non-photo identification on your device. Maricopa County voters can use a QR code linking their digital voter registration card. Learn more about that option on the county’s website.

You do not need a “REAL ID” to vote in Arizona.

“REAL ID” is a set of national security standards for states to follow when they issue driver’s licenses and state ID cards. Your ID will show a star if it meets REAL ID standards.

Applying for a REAL ID requires you to appear in person with a variety of documents to prove your identity. Visit the Arizona MVD website to find out exactly what is required to get a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or state ID card (called a Travel ID in Arizona).

You can use the number from your Arizona driver’s license or state ID card if it was issued after October 1996.

Voters without an Arizona license or ID can prove their citizenship by providing one of the following:

• Copy of US passport’s data page showing your name, photo, identifying information, and expiration date
• Indian Census Number, Bureau of Indian Affairs Card Number, Tribal Treaty Card Number, or Tribal Enrollment Number
• Copy of US naturalization documents or A-Number (Alien Registration Number)
• Copy of your birth certificate and any legal documents if your name has changed (marriage certificates, divorce decrees, court orders, etc. )
• Copy of your Tribal Certificate of Indian Blood or Bureau of Indian Affairs Affidavit of Birth

• Arizona driver’s license or state ID card (address does not need to match your voter registration)
• Number from Arizona driver’s license of state ID card (must be verified by country recorder)
• Tribal ID (any document issued by Tribal government, does not need to show address)
• Utility bill, bank or credit union statement, Arizona vehicle registration or insurance card, or property tax (must show address)
• Completed and signed “No Address Confirmation” form (for voters without a fixed or permanent address)
• Any mail labeled “official election mail”
• Voter registration card previously sent to you by Arizona
• Recorder’s certificate
• ID issued by US, AZ, or local government (must have name, photo, and address)

No, Arizona does not allow you to register and vote on the same day. Arizona’s deadline to register for an upcoming election is 29 days before Election Day.

If the registration deadline for an upcoming election has passed, you can still apply to register. Your registration will be processed, and you will be registered to vote in future elections.

College students are allowed to vote using their Arizona school residence address. You can decide if you prefer to register in your home state or in Arizona if you attend school there. You may only be registered and vote in one location.

Each state has its own laws about whether citizens with previous criminal convictions can vote. To check your eligibility to register to vote in Arizona use Restore Your Vote.

If you register using the Arizona state voter registration form and do not provide proof of citizenship, your registration will be rejected.

If you register using the federal voter registration form and do not provide proof of citizenship, you will be registered as a “federal only” voter.

This means you won’t be eligible to vote in state, county, or local elections (the elections when you vote for your governor, mayor, city council members, school board, etc.).

Being a “federal only” voter means you can vote for Congress and President, but you can’t vote in state or local elections in Arizona (the elections when you vote for your governor, mayor, city council members, school board, etc.).

Arizona voters  who do not provide proof of citizenship or Arizona residency when registering are registered as a “federal only”.

You can use Arizona’s voter information portal to check your registration status. The portal allows you to search for your registration record by providing the last four digits of your Social Security number.

“Full ballot”Arizona voters are allowed to vote in every election (state, local, and federal).

You can change your “federal only” voter status by providing proof of citizenship or residency (from the lists above) to your County Recorder’s office.
