Voting in Person
Kansas requires photo ID to vote in person.
Accepted Photo IDs
You can use the following IDs if they are unexpired or do not display an expiration date. If you are 65 years or older, you can use an acceptable ID that is expired.
Issued by any state or district of the United States:
- Driver’s license
- State ID card
- Concealed handgun license
Issued by municipal, county, state, or federal government office:
- Employee ID
- Public assistance ID card
Other forms of acceptable ID:
- US Passport
- Military ID
- Student ID card issued by an accredited higher-education institution in Kansas
- Tribal ID

You must present a physical ID to vote in Kansas. You cannot use an image, copy, or digital ID when you are voting in person
Do I need a “REAL ID” to vote in Kansas?
You do not need a “REAL ID” to vote in Kansas.
REAL ID is a set of national security standards for states to follow when they issue driver’s licenses and state ID cards. Your ID will show a star if it meets REAL ID standards.
Applying for a REAL ID requires you to appear in person with a variety of documents to prove your identity.
Voting by Mail
Request Ballot
Any registered Kansas voter can request to vote by mail (called “advance voting”).
Provide one of the following to request your ballot:
- Kansas driver’s license number (cannot be expired)
- Kansas state ID card number (cannot be expired)
- Copy of an accepted photo ID
Return Ballot
You do not need to include ID or an ID number with your completed ballot.
Don’t forget to sign! Your signature on the ballot envelope will be compared with your signature on file.
