Florida asks for photo ID to vote in person and an ID number to vote by mail.

1 Check ID Rules

Florida has different voter ID rules for:

IDs for Voting in Person

Option 1: Show one photo ID

Your photo ID:

Cannot be expired.
Does not need your current address.
Must have your signature.

You can show:

Florida driver’s license
Florida state ID card
US passport
Military identification
Student identification
Public assistance card
Veterans Affairs health ID (VHIC)
Retirement center identification
Neighborhood association identification
Debit or credit card
Florida concealed weapon or firearm license
Government employee ID (issued by US, Florida state, county, or city)

Option 2: Show two forms of ID

If your photo ID from Option 1 doesn’t have your signature, bring an extra identification that has it.

You can show:

Accepted photo ID without signature	+	Other ID with signature (no photo required)

Examples:

US passport card	+	Credit card
			Or
Student ID	+	Public assistance card

Option 3: Ask for a Provisional Ballot

If you can’t show ID from Option 1 or Option 2, ask to vote using a provisional ballot.

Provisional ballots are a backup option to make sure eligible voters are not turned away.

Your provisional ballot counts if:

You are registered and voting the correct precinct.
Your signature matches the one election officials have on file.

If your signatures don’t match:

You can fix this – it’s called “curing” your ballot.

Bring accepted ID to your county’s election office.
You have until 5:00 PM, 2 days after Election Day.
If you meet the deadline, your ballot counts.

Can I use a student ID to vote in Florida?

Student IDs are still accepted for voting in Florida’s 2026 elections.

You can use your student ID if it meets Florida’s requirements.

Student IDs will no longer be accepted when a new law goes into effect January 2027.

Can I use a digital or mobile ID to vote in Florida?

IDs for Voting by Mail

Any registered Florida voter can request to vote by mail. Ballot requests must be renewed every two years.

You must give one of these numbers to request your ballot:

Florida driver’s license number
Florida state ID card number
Last 4 digits of Social Security number

You do not need to include ID or an ID number with your completed ballot.

The signature on your ballot envelope will be compared to the one election officials have on file.

You must register before you can vote in Florida.

Who can vote in Florida?

You are eligible to vote in Florida if you meet all of the following requirements:

You are a citizen of the United States.
You are a resident of Florida.
You are at least 18 years of age on Election Day.

You cannot register to vote in Florida if:

You have been convicted of a felony and your civil rights have not been restored.
You have been declared incapacitated by a court of law.

Required Information

To register to vote in Florida

You must provide your driver’s license number or state ID number if you have one.
If you do not have either of these IDs, you can use the last 4 digits of your Social Security number (SSN).
If you do not have a Social Security number, then leave that space blank on your registration form.

If you don’t provide any of these numbers or the state can’t match the number you provide to official records, you will have to show an accepted form of ID the first time you vote.

Florida’s deadline to register for an upcoming election is 29 days before Election Day.
