What happened?

The House just passed the SAVE America Act, an even worse version of the stalled SAVE Act. The House ALSO sneakily added a voter ID bill to an unrelated insider trading bill.

These are voter suppression bills, pure and simple.

The SAVE America Act would require voters to prove their US citizenship to register using an extremely narrow list of documents and to show photo ID each time they vote in person. These bills would do nothing to safeguard our elections. But they would make casting a ballot much harder for millions of eligible US citizens.

What’s the problem?

VoteRiders’ research shows:

  • Millions of eligible citizens cannot easily access the citizenship documents called for by the SAVE America Act.
  • 34.5 million US citizens don’t have a government-issued photo ID with their current address and name on it.

Federal law also already requires voters to verify their identity and US citizenship when registering to vote. So, these bills are both harmful and unnecessary.

What can you do?

This is a setback, but the fight isn’t over yet. Now, the bills move to the Senate – and we must pressure our senators to block them.

Fill out this form to email your senators! Tell them to stand firm and OPPOSE these voter suppression bills.
