IDs for Voting in Person

Option 1: Show one photo ID

Your ID:

Must have name, photo, and signature.
Cannot be expired.
Does not need your current address.

You can show:

Florida driver’s license
Florida state ID card
US passport
Military identification
Student identification
Public assistance card
Veterans Affairs health ID (VHIC)
Retirement center identification
Neighborhood association identification
Debit or credit card
Florida concealed weapon or firearm license
Government employee ID (issued by US, state of Florida, county, or city)

Option 2: Show two forms of ID

If your photo ID from Option 1 doesn’t have your signature, bring an extra identification that has it. Your extra ID does not need a photo.

You can show:

Accepted photo ID without signature

Option 3: Ask for a Provisional Ballot

If you can’t show ID from Option 1 or Option 2, ask to vote using a provisional ballot.

Provisional ballots are a backup option to make sure eligible voters are not turned away.

Your provisional ballot counts if:

You are registered and voting in the correct precinct.
Your signature matches the one on file.

If your signatures don’t match:

You can fix this – it’s called “curing” your ballot.

Bring accepted ID to your local election office.

You have until 5:00 PM, 2 days after Election Day.

If you meet the deadline, your ballot counts.

What if I don’t have the right ID to vote in Florida?

You still have options if you don’t have an accepted ID.

Vote by Mail

You can use your Social Security number to request a vote-by-mail ballot.

Vote a Provisional Ballot

Go to your assigned voting location
Ask to vote a provisional ballot and sign it.
Confirm your ballot counts.

Can I use a student ID to vote in Florida?

Yes, student IDs are still accepted for voting in the 2026 elections.

You can use your student ID if it meets Florida’s requirements. Student IDs will no longer be accepted when a new law goes into effect in January 2027.

Can I use a digital or mobile ID to vote in Florida?

You must show a physical ID at the polls.

You cannot use an image, copy, digital, or mobile ID.

Do I need a “REAL ID” to vote in Florida?

You do not need a “REAL ID” to vote in Florida.

“REAL ID” is a set of national security standards for states to follow when they issue driver’s licenses and state ID cards.

How to get a “REAL ID” in Florida:

You must appear in person to apply for your driver’s license or ID card.
You must bring a variety of documents to prove your identity.

IDs for Voting by Mail

Request Ballot

Any registered Florida voter can request to vote by mail.

Give one of these numbers when you request your ballot:

Florida driver’s license number
Florida state ID card number
Last 4 digits of Social Security number

Return Ballot

You do not need to include ID or an ID number with your completed ballot.

Don’t forget to sign! Your signature on the ballot envelope will be compared with your signature on file.

2 Register

Who Can Register to Vote?

You can vote in Florida if you meet these requirements:

You are a citizen of the United States.
You are a resident of Florida.
You are at least 18 years of age on Election Day.

You cannot vote in Florida if:

You were convicted of a felony, and your right to vote has not been restored.
You are under a court order that takes away your right to vote.

Can I register to vote in Florida if I have been convicted of a crime?

Each state has its own laws about whether citizens with previous criminal convictions can vote.

Can I register to vote in Florida if I attend college in Florida?

College students are allowed to vote using their Florida school residence address.

You can decide whether to register in your home state or where you attend school.

No, Florida does not have same-day registration.

Florida’s Voter Registration Deadline

Online or in person: 29 days before Election Day
Mail: Postmarked 29 days before Election Day

If the deadline for an upcoming election has passed, you can still apply to register. Your registration will be processed, and you will be registered to vote in future elections.

How do I fix or update my voter registration information?

If you cannot find your registration information or if any details are incorrect:

Update your name, address, or political party affiliation by submitting a new registration.
Contact your local election office if you have questions or need to make other changes.

You have to verify your identity when you register to vote!

If you have a driver’s license or state ID card:

Enter your license or ID number on the registration form.

If you do not have either ID:

You can use the last 4 digits of your Social Security number.

If you do not provide an ID number when you register, be ready to show ID the first time you vote.

Voting in Person

You will be asked to show ID at the polls in Florida. If you don’t have an accepted ID, you must vote using a provisional ballot.

Request your mail ballot from your county’s election office.
You can request it by calling the office, visiting in person, or sending a written request by email, mail, or fax.

You must provide one of the following numbers when you request your ballot:

Florida driver’s license number
Florida state ID card number
Last 4 digits of Social Security number

How to Return Ballot

You can return your ballot by mail or in person. You do not need to include ID or an ID number.

Make a copy of accepted photo ID or one of the documents listed below.
Return the form and copy to your county’s Supervisor of Elections.
