Washington Voter Eligibility Requirements

You must register before you can vote in Washington.

You are eligible to vote in Washington if you meet all of the following requirements:

You cannot register to vote in Washington if:

  • You are currently serving a sentence for a Washington felony conviction.
  • You are currently incarcerated for a federal or out-of-state felony conviction.
  • You are disqualified from voting due to a court order.

Washington Voter Registration ID Requirements

To register to vote:

  • You must provide your driver’s license number or state ID number if you have one.
  • If you do not have either of these IDs, you can use the last 4 digits of your Social Security number (SSN).

If don’t provide any of these numbers or the state can’t match the number your provide to official records, you will be provisionally registered and notified. You will need to give one of the required numbers or provide an alternate form of identification to complete your registration.  

You can use:

  • Photo ID
  • Tribal enrollment card issued by a federally-recognized tribe in Washington
  • Copy of a current utility bill, bank statement, paycheck or government check
  • Other government document

Yes, Washington allows you to register and vote in person during early voting and on Election Day.

The deadline to register online or by mail is 8 days before the election.
