You do not need a “REAL ID” to vote in Georgia.

Your driver’s license or state ID card will show a gold star if it meets REAL ID requirements under federal law. You may commonly hear it referred to as a “gold star” or “star” ID.

Georgia issues only REAL ID-compliant driver’s licenses and state IDs.

If you need to renew your state photo ID or driver’s license (or apply for a new one) you must go through the REAL ID process.

No. The actual original ID is required because your ID has to be scanned as part of the check-in process. The ID must be placed onto an ID tray for the “Poll Pad” to be able to scan the bar code. Once the machine reads the barcode, the Poll Pad then brings up your voter information digitally, and then you are issued a voter card to vote. If the bar code cannot be read, then the poll worker can proceed to check your ID manually with a Supplemental List. If the Poll Pad stops working, the poll worker is then advised to use a paper back up list.
