Voting by Mail

After your first election, you do not need to provide ID to vote by mail in Utah.

First-Time Utah Voters 

If you:

  • Are voting in your first Utah election
  • Did not provide ID when you registered

You must provide a copy of your Utah driver’s license or state ID card with your completed ballot. These IDs must be unexpired.

Note: Utah voters will be required to provide ID numbers on their ballot beginning in 2029. Some counties have begun requesting this information, but it is not yet required.


Voting in Person

Utah requires ID when you vote in person.

If you are already registered to vote, you can show one unexpired form of photo ID or two forms of non-photo ID that combine to prove your name and current address. 

If you are voting on a provisional ballot, you will need to show two forms of accepted ID: one that confirms identity and one that shows proof of residence at your Utah address.

Accepted IDs

Show one form of Photo ID: 
Must be unexpired

  • Utah driver’s license
  • Utah state ID card
  • ID issued by Utah or US government
  • US passport or passport card
  • Military identification
  • Utah concealed weapon permit
  • Tribal ID (accepted with or without photo)

Show two forms of non-photo ID that combine to prove your name and current address:

  • Utility bill (Dated within 90 days)
  • Bank or financial statement
  • Social security card
  • Certified US birth certificate
  • Certified US naturalization document
  • Paycheck
  • Medicaid, Medicare, or EBT card
  • Certified copy of court records for adoption or name change
  • Government check issued by Utah or US government
  • Bureau of Indian Affairs
  • Tribal Treaty card
