The office that issues both IDs has different names in different states – like the DMV, DDS, Department of Public Safety, BMV, Secretary of State’s Office, Department of Licensing, etc .
You will likely need to visit your state’s office in person if you need a new ID or are getting one for the first time. You must go in person to get a REAL ID.
