VoteRiders’ Vision and Mission:
VoteRiders’ vision is a thriving American democracy with an empowered, civically engaged, diverse, and representative electorate. In such a democracy, voter ID laws do not prevent any eligible voters from having a voice at the ballot box.
VoteRiders’ mission is to ensure that no eligible voter is prevented from casting a ballot that counts due to voter ID laws, either directly from lack of acceptable ID or indirectly
because of voter confusion.
VoteRiders educates voters and assists citizens to secure their ID needed to vote. We inspire and support organizations, volunteers, and communities to sustain such voter ID education and assistance efforts.
The Voter ID Assistance (VIDA) Department:
You may be wondering, “Where does my role as a volunteer fit into this mission?” Our VIDA team plays a vital role in helping us make that thriving American democracy a reality.
One of VoteRiders’ core functions is direct voter ID Assistance. Eligible voters who live in a state with a photo-ID law can come directly to our team and receive full-service assistance in acquiring a state-issued ID or driver’s license, including assistance with underlying documents, rides to ID-issuing offices, and financial aid with the cost of any of these documents.
Each year, VoteRiders helps thousands of voters across the country acquire their ID and underlying documents. Work at this scale would be impossible without our dedicated team of volunteers like you.
Why Voter ID Assistance Matters:
Voter ID is crucial for eligible voters to cast their ballot, but can be too expensive, difficult to acquire, or time-consuming for everyday Americans. Our team helps lessen these barriers. We assist voters through the hurdles it takes to acquire their documents and cover the financial burden.
In addition to the importance of ID for voting, state-issued IDs and driver’s licenses are very important to people who need housing or employment assistance as well, so the work we do can be transformative for voters in many areas of their lives.
