What states do you work in?
VoteRiders provides ID assistance in all 38 US states that currently have a photo-ID requirement for voting; however, we have 7 focus states where we have paid staff on the ground developing partnerships and spreading awareness of our services: Arizona, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. The majority of our work comes from these states, and as a VoteRiders volunteer, you will be assigned to one of these focus states so you have a chance to get comfortable with the specific rules and procedures of a given state.
You will always be given the opportunity to choose your focus state, but if you don’t have a preference, we can assign you to the state of highest need.
Are there in-person and virtual volunteer opportunities?
Yes, if you live in one of our focus states there may be in-person volunteer opportunities for you! When you complete onboarding and are introduced to your focus-state staff, let them know you’re interested in in-person opportunities and they can get you connected.
How do voters find us?
Voters get in touch with VoteRiders through a variety of channels.
We have a publicly accessible helpline and chat where voters can contact us directly, distribute ID information cards with our contact information, and engage in marketing campaigns like bus and radio ads.
However, our most significant source of ID assistance volume comes from partner referrals. Our staff works hard to develop partnerships with organizations around the country where the people they serve often need ID assistance. Those partners share the client’s information with us so we can then reach out and provide that direct ID assistance.
Common VoteRiders partners include career service centers, homeless shelters, reentry service providers, and much more!
