Washington is a non-strict voter ID state.

Every registered Washington voter receives a mail ballot at the address in their voter registration file. A copy of your ID is not required when you vote by mail in Washington.

Can you use a student ID to vote in Washington?

Yes! You can present a student ID with your photo to vote a regular ballot at a Washington voting center.

Your student ID must be unexpired or show no expiration date.

You do not need to present an acceptable ID if your signature on the ballot declaration matches your voter registration record.

Can you vote without an ID in Washington?

A copy of your ID is not required when you vote by mail in Washington.

Registered voters in Washington must confirm their identity at voting centers by either:

  • signing a ballot declaration

OR

  • providing an acceptable photo ID.

You do not need to present an acceptable ID to vote a regular ballot if your signature on the ballot declaration matches your voter registration record.

If you are not able to confirm your identity, you may vote a provisional ballot.

Your signature on your provisional ballot must match your voter registration record in order for your ballot to be counted.
