Georgia Letter-Writing Campaign Success!

We called — and our volunteers answered … and then some! We’re thrilled to share final results from our 2021 Georgia Letter-Writing Campaign, which was a success beyond our wildest expectations – all thanks to our wonderful volunteers and partner organizations.

This summer, VoteRiders learned that nearly 155,000 registered Georgia voters did not have an ID on file with the Georgia Secretary of State, meaning they were at risk of being disenfranchised if they wished to vote by mail due to new ID-related requirements in the state’s recently-passed voting law.

VoteRiders’ mission is to ensure that no eligible voter is prevented from casting a ballot that counts due to voter ID laws — so we quickly sprung into action. We set out to contact as many of those voters as possible to let them know about the new law and to offer them VoteRiders’ services if they needed help getting an ID to vote. We did this by organizing weekly virtual letter-writing parties throughout the fall, during which our staff did a quick training for volunteers, who then proceeded to write letters to voters using a template provided by VoteRiders.

Almost 400 volunteers joined these virtual events, with 20 powerhouse superstars writing more than 100 letters each during the course of the campaign! A particular shout-out to our top overall letter-writer, Frank from Belmont, CA, for writing a whopping 540 letters, and to Valerie from Decatur, GA who won our “two-week runoff challenge” and sent 140 letters between Election Day and Atlanta’s mayoral runoff election on November 30!

Overall, together we were able to deliver handwritten letters to nearly 22,000 registered Georgia voters!  The impact of these letters in 2021 is guaranteed to resonate throughout the Peach State in 2022 and beyond.

We’re eternally grateful to our scores of partner organizations who helped to make this campaign a success by co-hosting virtual events with us, sending volunteers our way, and helping to spread the word: Vot-ER, Fair Count, Davis Wright Tremaine, Santa Clara High School, Aflac, 159 Together, New Georgia Project, ACLU GA, Fair Fight, Kilpatrick Townsend, Common Cause GA, SFV Climate Reality, NAACP GA, Valencia College (FL), the Civic Alliance, Crooked Media, and the Time to Vote Coalition. You all exemplify the power and purpose of partnership and collaboration.

Most of all, thank you to each and every one of our volunteers who participated in, helped promote, and/or dedicated their time and energy to delivering key voter ID information and assistance to voters during this campaign! We are only as good as the sum of our efforts and it is because of their dedication to democracy that we can make a lasting impact in our country and in voters’ lives. The difference is US.

Rest assured, we’re just getting started. We’ll announce exciting news coming VERY soon about volunteer opportunities in the upcoming big year ahead of us!
