Voter ID in Arkansas

What is your plan for voting?

Voter ID rules are different based on whether you vote by absentee ballot or in person.

Voting by Absentee Ballot

You can vote using an absentee ballot if:

  • You are a registered voter in Arkansas.
  • You can’t go to your polling place for a valid reason, like being sick or having a physical disability.

Valid reasons include:

  • Being sick
  • Having a physical disability
  • Living in a care facility licensed by the state

Requesting Your Ballot

You have to apply with your county clerk to receive an absentee ballot. If you need assistance, another person can help fill out the application.

Turn your application in to the same county where you are registered to vote. It can be delivered to the county clerk’s office in person or sent by mail.

You don’t have to include ID with your application.

Returning Your Ballot

You have to include a copy of an acceptable ID when you return your completed ballot.

Arkansas does not allow you to return your ballot electronically.

You can use your ID if:

  • It shows your name and photo.
  • It is issued by the US government, Arkansas, or a college or university in the state.

Your ID doesn’t need to have an expiration date. If it does have one, it can’t expire more than 4 years before Election Day.

If you are in a long-term care facility, you can use a document from your facility administrator that confirms you live there.

Photo IDs that you might be able to use include:

  • Arkansas driver’s license or ID
  • Public assistance card
  • Voter verification card
  • US passport or passport card
  • Student or employee ID from a college or university
  • Military ID
