ARIZONA REPUBLIC: The citizens who can't prove it

Remember that pivotal court case I told you about last week? Since then, the nation’s highest court has weighed in — and its order will limit Arizona voters’ ability to register without documents proving their citizenship.

That could prove a barrier for some Arizonans seeking to vote in the presidential and congressional races. Recent research from the Brennan Center, VoteRiders, the University of Maryland and Public Wise indicates more than 9% of Americans of voting age don’t have proof of citizenship readily available. That’s millions of people nationwide who lack documents such as a passport or a birth certificate.
