THE CHARGE NEWS: Students attempt to increase voter participation in Florida by teaming up with VoteRiders

Volunteer UCF hosted “Writing Wednesday” Sept. 25 and collaborated with VoteRiders for students to write letters reminding Floridians about important dates this election.

VoteRiders’ state coordinator said this was Volunteer UCF’s first partnership with VoteRiders, a nonpartisan nonprofit organization that provides assistance around the country so that every U.S. citizen is able to cast their vote and make decisions on their futures.

“You have a long future ahead of you and the people that we’re electing into office this election,” said Taylor Ashley Crowe, the Florida state coordinator for VoteRiders. “And these upcoming cycles, they are affecting our national policies, our local policies and just how we’re going to have to govern our lives for the next few years.”

Students were handed pre-filled out forms with necessary Florida voting rules, such as the voter registration deadline, statewide early voting and the deadline to request a mail-in ballot, with the option to add a hand-written message of their choosing as long as it was nonpartisan.
